Activity 4: Hidden Safari

Activity 4: Hidden Safari

For this activity, we kind of created two activities in one. when you use the red lenses, you can see a hidden drawing hidden behind the design. When you look at mine you will see an elephant behind the the pattern. Not only will students draw a picture of a safari animal, but they will also work with warm colors and designs.

Instructions:

First, you will draw a safari animal on a sheet of paper using a blue colored pencil. We use blue because you will be able to see it when you look through the lenses. Once you complete your animal drawing, you will use warm colors to go over the top of you drawing to hide the original image. You will then use the red see through lenses and make some glasses out of them to be able to look through to see your image.

  Materials:

- drawing paper
- red construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- red, yellow, orange crayons
- blue colored pencil
- red 3D glasses paper
- notecard (optional: to write hints)

Extension Activity:

An extension activity for this lesson, would be studying different countries or something to do with a safari and or different animals. This could be a way to integrate art into other subjects as well. You could also continue to practice drawing realistic things such as animals. After this activity you would continue to work with realistic drawing.
