Activity 3: Vincent Van Gough

Activity 3: Vincent Van Gough Style

For this activity, we talked about Vincent Van Gough in class. We look at different examples of his work and made our own variation of it. For my example, I did a winter scene. In Van Gough's paintings there is a lot of movement. As you can see in the sky of my example I based mine off of Van Gough's Starry Night.

Instructions:

First you will used a some Modge Podge, Clue based paint, or even some glue and water mixed together to create a mache type of liquid. Once you've created that, you will use that and tissue paper to create the background. Once that is dry, you will use oil pastels to create your sky. Once you've completed that you will use a darker paper to create a landscape that you will glue over top of the tissue paper and oil pastels.

Materials:

- Construction paper (2 pieces)

- Tissue Paper

- Oil Pastels

-Glue

-Modge Podge, Glue based paint, or Paper Mache mixture

- Paint brush

Extension Activity:

An extension activity for this lesson would be, use multiple materials and different medias to create another Van Gough inspired project. The students would use the different materials and media to create a movement in the image through the sky like we did with the tissue paper and oil pastels. This would be beneficial for the students to be able to work with different medias and how to use those create the look of movement.
